About the PTA

The Sierra Oaks PTA is a vital part of the school community, even more so when budget cuts have reduced funding to our schools.  The PTA works tirelessly to fill the voids created by these funding gaps and support programs which benefit all students at Sierra Oaks.  Programs funded by the PTA include:

TECHNOLOGY – The PTA funds the technology needs for our school that are not covered by district funds.  Over the past 2 years, the PTA has sponsored the purchase of Chrome Notebooks to be used in the classrooms and for taking the standardized tests required by California.  The PTA has also purchased many iPads to be used daily in the lower grade classrooms to utilize changing technology in the classrooms and                                                        the most up-to-date teaching tools!

TEACHERS’ AIDES/TUTORS – The PTA funds a variety of teachers’ aides and tutoring programs.  The PTA recently funded teachers’ aides for all first grade classes.  Transitioning from half days during kindergarten to full days during first grade can be a challenge for many kids.  The aides funded by the PTA have provided critical support for the teachers working to help these young students make that transition.  The PTA has                                                  also provided funding for middle school math tutors.

SCHOOL LIBRARIAN – Have you noticed the all of the books your kids take home from the library.  That is only made possible with a school librarian.  And the PTA provides needed funding to support this critical part of our children’s education.

THEATER AND THE ARTS – The Missoula Theater Company and the Sierra Oaks Talent Show are just two examples of creative arts programs that are funded bv the PTA.

COMPUTER SUPPORT AND REPAIR – PTA dollars fund a part-time IT professional to provide hardware and software support for all of the computer equipment.

BASIC SCHOOL SUPPLIES – It may not seem like a lot but it certainly is.  Budget cuts have dramatically reduced supplies of every day essentials like paper, pencils, tape, etc.  Funding from the PTA has helped to fill those gaps.

All families are encouraged to become members of the PTA.  Our PTA K-8 Connect meetings are open to the community so we can share great ideas and volunteer to help our school be a success.   Please see the calendar for specific dates and times.  A membership fee of $15 per family is requested and may be made at any time during the school year.
